Laser Highway/Zerotonine It's amazing to see new material from one of my earliest exposures to the retro throwback production sound. It's not all synthwave, but then again, it doesn't have to be, and it still sounds like Botnit. I'm just glad to hear more of the man's work after his sad departure years ago. Favorite track: Computer Music.

djcyans Botnit is my favorite artist. He never fails to impress my ears with his nostalgic tunes. More people need to support this aspiring artist because he works very hard at what he does. Favorite track: Feel the Rhythm.
Andrew Hoke

Andrew Hoke State of the Art is music with a meaning, another fantastic release by botnit. Picking a favorite was a difficult choice. He told me he hopes "it's synthwavey enough to satisfy everyone." He's no doubt succeeded! Favorite track: Music Happens.

about

NEXT
Not all synthwave has to sound like it.

Production Notes: I wanted a unique opener for the album, not boilerplate synthwave. I looked back at my history of songs I really liked. What resulted was a combination of Shenmue's "Cherry Blossom Wind Dance", "Kiara" by Bonobo, and The Prodigy's "Diesel Power"

LOST IN NOSTALGIA
Nostalgia, it sure ain't what it used to be. We're homesick for a place that doesn't exist. You can never truly go home again.

Production notes: This tune has a history, it went through many revisions and changes. It's much more powerful in the end, and it almost hit the recycle bin numerous times because I could not break through a wall. Once I did, it became immediately clear how this tune was going to shape up.

SHOOTING STAR
A single star in the night sky reaches its destination without being burned out by pessimistic synthwave artists.

Production notes: Similar to "Welcome", this song was going to be a cleaner, rhythm-driven song that was lighter on the synth, coming out of the synth-heavy "Lost in Nostalgia". I brought back the Polysix despite grumblings of select synthwave "artists" who thought it was overused on "To the Max."

I'M SOMEBODY TONIGHT
A young man dislikes high school, and the one single time he feels real is when he's at the video arcade saturday mornings.

Production notes: There was a kid, and for him, high school sucked, couldn't drive anywhere, but my parents drove to the mall every Saturday morning, and he played games in the arcade while they shopped. Even though he wasn't popular in high school, he was popular at the arcade because he was good at games, along with other people in a similar situation. The beats-per-minute of the song is 97 BPM, 1997 being the year that kid actually got a job at that same arcade.

COMPUTER MUSIC
With the rise of computer power, they can now help us make music!

Production notes: Audio is taken from an episode of "Computer Chronicles." It's meant to sound more computer made than some of my other tunes. There is a clip after the first chorus talking about emulating the human voice, followed up by a mouth pop before verse two, which is actually made by a synthesizer.

THE JUNGLE
The short story of "OG Loc", a Crip, caught up in the early 90's Los Angeles gang scene.

Production notes: Song was inspired by recollection of watching the early 90's LA riots on TV, and everything associalted with that. There are touches of 90's sound in here, namely the hihats. Name is inspired by Guns n' Roses "Welcome to the Jungle"

MUSIC HAPPENS
Sometimes you just play, you sit down to play, and music happens.

Production notes: The same core of the song plays twice, once without drums and bass, and once with them included. This is to show how beautiful a piece can be without drums and bass in the way, and how they can tranform a calm song into a powerful one.

FEEL THE RHYTHM
A 90's track inspired by rave houses and dance parties.

Production notes: "1991" was a test to see if there was an audience for some 90's music. Fans loved it, other synthwave artists did not, but luckily they are not my audience. "Feel the Rhythm" is a spiritual sequel to 1991. Early on, I was using a very 90's sax sound for the opening synth. FM-84 recommended a better sound that became the final version. So cheers to him!

"I'm Somebody Tonight"

Dreams of lights, and sound and sights
Competition is in the air
TV screens and marquees alight
This place is free from care
It's the same scene day or night
The week is over and I'm alright
I'm somebody tonight

I'm really not here, taking classes
I wish I could disappear
Nobody likes the kid wearing glasses
I don't fit in here, but
The week is over and I'm alright
I'm somebody tonight (x2)

My parents don't understand, what I've got
This arcade sets me free
I spend six days being someone I'm not
For one day being me
The week is over and I'm alright
I'm somebody tonight (x3)
